“PUNK IN SURF!” was my introduction to fashion final at SCAD. For this assignment we were assigned to create an avant-garde conceptual collection and create one physical garment inspired by anything we wanted. My concept was a collection inspired by the momentum generation of surfers like Kelly Slater, Taylor Steele, and Todd Chesser who changed the game of competitive surfing. Before these surfers, competitive surfing did not make enough money to make a living off of and pro surfing was not taken seriously. My work pays homage to this group of surfers by pulling inspiration from what threw Taylor Steele's surf films into the spotlight—mixing punk music and surf culture. My collection is a mix of punk-inspired elements as well as ocean-inspired shapes.
